Going off piste here, but I really wanted to share this as it makes I larf. This is from the tomb of some medieval bod (sorry historians!) in Bristol Cathedral. The best explanation i can come up with is that it's a sphinx depicted by someone who's never seen one - a bit like a lion, a bit like a man and with a funny thing on his chin.....
If anyone wants to try and describe to me an animal, or I guess anything, as if I've never left the village and TV won't be invented for another 600 years, then i'll be happy to see if i can do better...

There is the coolest gilded hedgehog on a tomb in Westminster Abbey. Of all the creatures to spend eternity resting your feet on... a hedgehog ?
Word verification is NUMIUMS - which are a bit like Nasturtiums, but with less get up and go.
The Gilded Hedgehog - sounds like a watering hole in a Terry Pratchett book.
Re the challenge I'd be very grateful for any suggestions; like the sphinx on this tomb or Durer's Rhino - imagine you're desribing an exotic animal/thing (from a giraffe to a bicycle) to me that as a non-travelled medieval type I could not possibly have come across...I'll take that description as literally as I can and see what the resulting drawing looks like.
Obviously being as I'm super brainy, well read and travelled this may not work just due to me being able to guess what you're talkng about (and this is why I'm not coming up with these myself...I know what I'm thinking!)..but it could be a cool project...fancy helping?
PS my verification is 'conions'. I'm not touching that with a barge pole!
Okay.
Four limbs, two rubbery black and removable, two unclad and vulnerable, flappy loose red around the middle. Pale hair that covers the face, and a cross of maybe bones visible in the front. Sitting on a Maltese cross ?
There, work that one out.
Crikey - straight in at the deep end! I genuinely have no clue... it may take a while but I 'll get a skecth up as soon as I can. Will you tell us what it actually is when I'm done?
